Abstract: In order to explore influence of natural aging on thermal behavior characteristics of poplar wood, poplars with different natural aging rank were selected, and their apparent morphology and microstructure were tested by using scanning electron microscope (SEM) and Fourier infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), respectively. In addition, their thermal behavior characteristics were studied through differential scanning calorimeter (DSC). The test indicated that their surface produced a large number of uneven fractures after natural aging, and diameter of internal pores could also increase. The content of active groups such as hydroxyl group, carbonyl group and ether bond decreased gradually as degree of natural aging deepened, while DSC heat flow curve shifted to low temperature region. The results show that natural aging changes the internal pore structure and active group content of poplar wood, causing the samples to be pyrolyzed more easily.
